This mama worked so gracefully to bring her safely Earthside, and quickly! Her labor day began with strength, continued with a steady pace, and this woman remained in a position of control throughout it all! Rae’s grandmother (a source of great comfort) was feverishly racing to meet her from Texas, and arrived just in time.
Jude Jonan arrived on April 27, 2017 in the early morning hours, after we all spent the night waiting to meet him. He was born in his parents’ bed, caught by his father, weighing 8lb 9oz.
I have loved caring for his mother; she did not have a pleasant birth experience with her first baby, and was determined to find a provider who listened to her this time. May we all be supported and trusted to make healthcare choices for ourselves!
Welcome to the World, Jules Marie! We met this concert-loving sweetheart on March 18, 2017 with the assistance of a skilled physician. We needed a little extra help in addition to our home birth team, and the first words this woman said to her hospital nurse were, “Can I give you a hug?”
Her mother triumphed through a few days of start and stop labor, and was rewarded with a vigorous 7lb 3oz baby girl who was born into her father’s hands. A gentle, and empowering birth!
Estella Adriana was born underwater on March 15, 2017, and weighed a healthy 8lb 6oz. Her birthday was peaceful: soft music was playing, there were essential oils in a diffuser, and twinkle lights peeking under the door from her older sister’s bedroom.
There are a couple doulas in Estella’s family, and one future midwife! The calm birth vibes were flowing, as this babe was welcomed poolside by her family at home.
Joy Helen was born on a warm evening in March, after a tranquil labor, and weighed 8lb 1oz. Her mother asked for peace with each wave, and that feeling was certainly WOmanifested.
When talking with Joy’s mama about her birth, she remembered thinking, “Oh, I guess I should catch her now!” after surprising herself with how quickly she arrived. A slow delivery of the baby’s head is a healthy transition for them both, but the body can come much faster!
Welcome, Penelope Elizabeth Lottie! She was born into this World a bit earlier than we expected, weighing 4lb 4oz. This babe has been smiling since her first snuggle with her mama, and impressed her Neonatologist by breathing on her own and breastfeeding from the start.
I’m thankful for the co-care we received from a local Perinatologist, as she offered specialized medicine while supporting the original home birth plan. A community working to facilitate preferred care for women delivers healthy, smiling babies.
Look at this giggling smile! Xavier Na’im O’Neal was born on May 26, 2016 after a challenging labor. His mother worked tirelessly: I have beautiful memories of this woman rocking her hips up and down the stairs with her mama by her side, squatting on a deck overlooking the healthy Spring field, finding comfort in water, and entertaining every position I suggested. (Her family raises horses, and we were smirking over the brief fouling stages!)
Her 7lb 11oz babe was born via cesarean, as we tried everything! Gosh, he is worth it all.
